In 1991, the Central Hawke's Bay District Council in conjunction with the 1990 Commission and the Central Hawke's Bay Women's Institute, established a Civic Honours Award to recognise outstanding voluntary services.

In addition to the long-standing Civic Honours Award, there is also the opportunity to recognise and celebrate our volunteers through two other award categories:

• Community Service Award
• Organisation of the Year Award
