What is the club proposing to do?

The Club would like to enhance what's on offer to the Pōrangahau community at White Domain.

This is the legal stuff - but to summarise what it's saying:

  • Council is responsible for and administers the Domain as a 'recreation reserve'. (Check out the Central Hawke's Bay Reserves Management Plan 2022 in the Document Library to the right.)
  • Council is thinking about granting a lease to the Pōrangahau Sports Club for 11 years, in the first instance. The Club would have the option to renew the lease for a further 11 years after that, and then again after that. (A total of 33 years.)
  • Under the lease, the Club would be allowed to build new club rooms and operate the club from the Domain.
  • Anyone can make a submission about the proposal to grant the lease. (Best way to do that is to hit the purple 'provide feedback' button above.)


Reserves Act 1977 – Legal Process

Notice of intention to grant lease over Recreation Reserve pursuant to section 54(1)(B) and section 54 (1)(C) of the Reserves Act 1977

Pursuant to section 54 (1)(B) and section 54 (1)(C) of the Reserves Act 1977 the Central Hawke’s Bay District Council proposes to grant a lease of land to the Porangahau Sports Club Incorporated, for an initial term of eleven years, with two further renewal terms of eleven years. The lease is proposed to commence on 1 December 2025. The proposed lease will permit the club to construct a new club rooms and to operate the sports club from the Domain.

The Lease is approximately 70,200m2 and is located at White Domain, Dundas Street Porangahau, contained in part of Blk XII Porangahau SD Sec 6.

The land is vested and administered by the Central Hawke’s Bay District Council as Recreation Reserve and is subject to the Reserves Act 1977.
